Geoffrey Gilbert

  • Born 1914 in Liverpool
  • At the age of 16 solo flutist of the Halle orchestra
  • At 19 solo flutist of the London Philharmonics
  • Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music, at the Trinity College and at the Guidhall School of Music
  • Was one of the first british flutists to change to the silver flute.
  • Among his students were William Bennett and James Galway
  • 1969 move to America
  • Known as the Gentleman of the flute
  • Died on the 18th of may 1989
