Johann Georg Tromlitz

  • Born on the 8th of november 1725 in Reinsdorf, Germany
  • Started about 1750 to build flutes, being dissatisfied with the available instruments.
  • Since 1754 first flutist at the "Big Concert" (ancestor of todays Gewandhaus-Orchestra)
  • 1776 leaving the orchestra for touring and teaching.
  • Since 1785 drawback from playing concertos restricting himself to the enhancement of the flute.
  • At the end his flute had eight keys and could be played only by very skilful musicians.
  • 1786 he wrote a short article about playing the flute.
  • Died on the 4th of february 1805 in Leipzig
